| Playing Pretend Store: Preschool Activity |
| Pretend play is important to the development of toddlers and preschoolers. Pretend play allows children to use their imagination. To get started, you may want to play store. One of the best ways to do this is by to have a toy cash register. If you do not currently own one, you can find them for affordable prices. Personally, we purchased a cheap cash register that came with a beeping scanner, play food, a small shopping basket, and play money from Wal-Mart. You and your child can take turns being the shopper and the cashier. A toy cash register that allows your child to add up purchases is nice, as this can also help them with their math skills. When playing pretend store, you can also work to educate your child on money. If you wish and as long as your child is old enough, you may want to replace play money with real money. Depending on the number of play food products you have, you can also quiz your child on what they are. As with a toy cash register, additional play food can also be purchased separately. This is ideal if you purchase a toy cash register that does not include play food or if you are looking for additional pieces. |
